The medical team has been sent to Peru by Children’s Surgery International , a nonprofit organization from the United States devoted to repairing facial deformities of children in developing countries. A CSI medical group performed 84 surgeries in Peru during an initial familiarization mission last year. The 39 member CSI team that’s coming to Arequipa in May will include ear, throat and nose surgeons, plastic material surgeons, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, a dental practitioner, nurses, a speech pathologist, a young child development specialist and a biomedical technician. The hereditary factors underlying persistent kidney disease have been difficult to determine until lately, when new solutions to seek out risk genes became obtainable. The CKDGen Consortium applied among the new methods, called genome-wide association study. In 2008, Johns Hopkins researchers used similar methods to identify common variants for nondiabetic end-stage renal disease, gout pain and sudden cardiac death. The significance of the finding is that even though the field provides known about cubilin function from experimental animal research, our study was the first ever to establish the hyperlink between a genetic variation in this albuminuria and gene, stated Linda Kao, PhD, MHS, associate professor in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Wellness's departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and the senior Johns Hopkins author on the scholarly study.
